Two weeks with local volunteers and elderly people (阿嬤) in Xishi

Hello everyone, this summer has been a very busy time for VYA, which held three different work camps here in Taiwan.

During two weeks, a group of international volunteers settled in the comminity activitiy center with a dozen of youngster local volunteers as well. They worked hand in hand...and had a lot of fun.
大家都很努力做服務..and have fun!。

VYA taiwan cooperate with Hondao, a local association which is in charge of activities for elderly people.

Chiuling /秋玲(left) is Hondao welfare worker and has been our local leader for two weeks, she made this workcamp vivid and unforgettable.

This work camp was a project related to social work with elderly people and rural development through the construction of a park to make the environment more comfortable and beautiful. Our aim was to push interaction between locals themselves and bring a wave of youth and vitality to the grandma and grandpa there.

Yu jeon (鄭庾鍾), a 25 years old korean volunteer, helping Ama for blood pressure checking. Later he'll be nicknamed "Grandma killer" for being so popular!

Xishi, is a small village located in Changhua County, many decades before, the key sector was wooden brooms industry, but this product became old fashion and sells decreased gradually (people buy plastic brooms instead). Xishi is actually one of the two last production sites left in taiwan.

Claire, VYA leader and Yoshi, japanese volunteer.

While the typhoon was blowing, we had no choice but stay in the activity center and make handicraft or sing karaoke (our dormitory was equiped so that we have sang many many hours!) A 91 years old grandma came to teach us how to sew and make traditional necklace.

Wendy (taiwanese volunteer ) learns very fast!

Allen, 16 years old, our youngest volunteer, with his brand new "cow" creation

A school teacher living next door helped us to use a paste and making lovely cows.
